Inspiration
Finding the right AI tool, useful website, or online resource can be surprisingly difficult. There are thousands of tools available, but discovering the right one often means spending hours searching across different websites.
I wanted to make that process easier. That's how LOOKFORIT started: a project built around one simple idea — helping people discover useful digital tools and resources without wasting time.
What it does
LOOKFORIT is a digital discovery platform that brings AI tools, useful websites, online resources, and productivity solutions together in one place.
The platform helps users:
- Discover AI tools across different categories.
- Explore useful websites and online resources.
- Find tools through search and category-based filtering.
- Access resources for productivity, learning, development, and online opportunities.
- Read articles and guides that help users understand and choose the right tools.
The goal is to make discovering useful digital resources faster, easier, and more accessible.
How I built it
I developed LOOKFORIT as a lightweight, responsive website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
The project uses a static-site architecture, with GitHub Pages for hosting and Cloudflare for domain and infrastructure management.
Some of the key implementation work includes:
- Building the website interface and navigation.
- Organizing tools into categories.
- Implementing search and category filtering.
- Creating individual tool and category pages.
- Developing articles and resource sections.
- Adding SEO metadata, structured data, sitemap, and robots.txt.
- Connecting the website to its custom domain and managing deployments through Git.
I focused on keeping the platform lightweight, accessible, and maintainable without requiring an expensive backend infrastructure.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was organizing a growing collection of digital tools while keeping the website easy to navigate.
Other challenges included:
- Maintaining consistency across tool and category pages.
- Making search and filtering useful as the directory grew.
- Improving SEO and discoverability for individual pages.
- Managing static hosting and custom-domain deployment.
- Balancing new features with website performance and maintainability.
Working with a static architecture also meant carefully planning features around what could run directly in the browser.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that LOOKFORIT has grown from an initial idea into a functioning online discovery platform.
Some accomplishments include:
- Building a directory with more than 100 AI tools and digital resources.
- Expanding the wider catalogue to explore approximately 1,500 tools.
- Implementing search and category-based discovery.
- Publishing articles and dedicated resource pages.
- Establishing a custom domain and deployment workflow.
- Building an SEO foundation with structured data, sitemap, and metadata.
Most importantly, I built the project using accessible technologies and a low-cost infrastructure.
What I learned
This project helped me improve my practical skills in frontend development, website architecture, SEO, content organization, and deployment.
I learned that building a useful platform is not just about writing code. Information architecture, user experience, discoverability, performance, and maintainability are equally important.
I also learned how to work within technical and financial limitations while continuing to improve a real-world project.
What's next for LOOKFORIT
I want to evolve LOOKFORIT from a simple discovery directory into a more comprehensive digital resource platform.
My future plans include:
- Expanding and improving the AI tools directory.
- Adding more useful websites, developer resources, and learning platforms.
- Developing browser-based productivity tools.
- Improving search, filtering, and discovery experiences.
- Publishing more practical guides and comparisons.
- Improving accessibility, performance, and SEO.
- Exploring intelligent recommendations to help users find resources based on their needs.
My long-term vision is to make LOOKFORIT a place where anyone can find the right digital tool or resource for almost any task.
