Inspiration

Our inspiration for LookBook comes from the faults of Instagram and Pinterest and the simplicity of apps like BeReal and Locket. Instagram’s search algorithm isn’t ideal and lacks specificity and Pinterest lacks personalization and individuality. We wanted to create an app that is targeted to our user’s unique tastes and simple to use.

What it does

Our app allows users to post an “outfit of the day” photo and share with others. You can link items you wear on your post, for others to easily access your clothing items. You’re able to like posts you enjoy and save posts you want to remember. We aim to sum up each user’s style in one compact app for users to share and store their style with others.

How we built it

We used Swift to make the front end and NodeJS and MySQL for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, it was really hard to set up the MySQL database. We also struggled with connecting the UI to the database and successfully updating the UI. Uploading and storing images and presenting them on the UI was also a challenging task. It was our entire team’s first time coding with Swift and developing an app, so there was a steep learning curve to overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was the first time any of us have used swift, and we are really proud that we made a product with it.

What we learned

We all learnt a ton about swift, xcode, and how to connect them to a backend. We learned how to save images in our database and handle sending them to and from our backend.

What's next for Lookbook

Continue working on uploading and user details, optimize the search bar to be specific and targeted towards individual users, and implement a calendar feature to view your outfits of each month.
