Inspiration
When our team was brainstorming project ideas, we were inspired by the Impact Hack challenge to make something that can let people interact and socialize with their local communities from the convenience of their devices. With people spending an increasing amount of time apart mostly due to the ongoing pandemic, we decided to make an app that lets people spread positivity through art to people in their area.
What it does
Through Loodle users can upload their original drawings, view drawings made by nearby users in their community, and react to the drawings that they enjoy. Try it out at link![this link]
How we built it
We focused on deploying as much of the app as possible to Google Cloud for both reliability and ease of access. We used Firebase Realtime Database along with Google Cloud Storage to hold all of our data. The front-end is written in HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Integration between all the different Google Cloud products that we used was difficult because we had to learn each of them as we went.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete the product that we wanted within the timeframe of the hackathon while learning a lot about new technologies.
What we learned
The thing that our team spent the most time learning was Google Cloud. None of us had significant experience with Google Cloud products before this, and since our app was almost entirely deployed using Google Cloud we were able to learn about many different Google Cloud products and how to interact between them.
What's next for Loodle
- Implementing Google's QuickDraw API to automatically moderate drawings
- Using AJAX to refresh posts without the need to refresh the user's browser window
- Adding more distance options for viewing nearby posts
