Inspiration

A lovely team member had difficulties locating a restroom in New York City.

What it does

Locate toilets close to you in your darkest hour. See their ratings and leave reviews to help fellow users locate premium bathrooms. Compete on a leaderboard to see who has visited the most restrooms (very important information). (Disclaimer: Some features may not be fully implemented)

Our pitch

[Screen fades in to a scene of a person desperately searching for a bathroom in a bustling city, looking anxious and uncomfortable]

Voiceover: "Picture this: you're in a new city, exploring the sights and sounds, when suddenly nature calls! But finding a bathroom becomes a wild goose chase, with every wrong turn leading to frustration and discomfort."

[Screen shows the person asking strangers for directions, checking their phone for restroom locations, but struggling to find a reliable option]

Voiceover: "You wish you had a trusty bathroom buddy to guide you to the nearest restroom, with ratings and reviews from fellow bathroom-goers, and a seamless way to bookmark your favorite restrooms for future reference."

[Screen transitions to the Loocator app's loading screen with the familiar flushing toilet sound effect]

Voiceover: "Well, look no further! Introducing Loocator, the app that's got your back when nature calls!"

[Screen shows the Loocator app's home page, displaying the nearest restroom locations on a map, with a user clicking on a restroom icon and viewing its details]

Voiceover: "Our app's easy-to-use interface shows you the nearest restrooms, complete with names, ratings, and reviews from a cohesive rating system. Plus, we’ve got some exciting features in the pipeline too, including our top-secret 'emergency roll' locator, for those times when you're in dire need of toilet paper. Because we've all been there, am I right?"

[Screen shows the bookmark feature, a larger window with more details about restrooms, and the sign-up page]

Voiceover: "Bookmark your beloved restrooms so you can easily find them again and never miss a clean and cozy pit stop, get detailed information in a click, and sign up with a breeze to unlock even more benefits!"

[Screen shows the profile page with the sleek sign-in page and the leaderboard feature]

Voiceover: "New to Loocator? No problem! We've got a seamless sign-up process that'll have you exploring restrooms in no time. It's as easy as one, two, pee! And once you're logged in, you'll have your own profile page where you can keep track of your restroom adventures, and even compete with other bathroom enthusiasts on our leaderboard. Oh, and did we mention how proud we are of our sign-in page? It's as smooth as a freshly polished toilet seat!"

[Screen shows the settings page with options for customization]

Voiceover: "With Loocator, you're in control. Customize your experience with our settings page and make your bathroom hunting adventures truly your own."

[Screen fades out with a catchy jingle playing in the background]

Voiceover: "So say goodbye to bathroom mishaps and hello to hassle-free bathroom breaks with Loocator!"

[Screen fades to the Loocator logo with download links and social media handles]

[Pitch ends with a witty punchline]

Voiceover: "Because finding restrooms should be as easy as finding your way to a free stall. Download Loocator now and let's get this potty started!"

[Screen fades out and pitch concludes]

How we built it

Blood, sweat, and tears. Haha... just kidding... unless...? We used React Native, JavaScript, and the Google Maps API.

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing dark mode across multiple screens
  • Backend integration
  • useState, useEffect, useNavigation
  • Incorporating a screen that switched and a bottom navigation bar
  • Firebase packages depending on out-of-date code
  • Formatting text and components
  • Reading the video script seriously

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using the Google Maps API, attempting user authentication, and having some banger designs. "Not feeling very proud at this very moment, not gonna lie. I'm feeling a lot of emotions, but pride is not one of them." - Anonymous Team Member #1 at 3:19 AM

What we learned

React Native, Firebase, useState, useEffect, useNavigation, styling, Figma. "Nothing /s" - Anonymous Team Member #2

What's next for loocator

Implementing the features that we weren't able to!
