Inspiration
Most survival games hide your inventory in a menu. We made it a horse. You and your horse share one health pool; the saddlebags are your inventory; load it heavy and it slows down. If it goes down out on the cursed frontier, you're on foot, limping home before dark. The hook came from one question: what if the thing keeping you alive also carried everything you owned?
What it does
A mobile survival game built around short, 10–15 minute rides. Load your horse, ride into a cursed frontier, gather four materials, fight what guards them, and race nightfall home. Back at camp, every material pulls two ways from one shared stash — power now or capability later. Push deeper for better loot and tougher enemies, until you're geared up enough to reach the cursed town and break its curse.
How we built it
A design package: GDD, Player Journey Map, Production Plan, and Visual Concept Package. We fixed one progression spine — progress = reclaiming towns — and made every system point at it. We scoped a tight MVP, sequenced the build riskiest-part-first, ran an outside review, and applied its fixes. The visuals use colour as the language: warm day, cursed-cold dark, shifting as the daylight clock drains.
Challenges we ran into
Restraint. The horse hook invites endless systems, so we kept cutting back to one question: is the core loop fun? And consistency — early drafts contradicted themselves on death, storage, and gear loss. Reconciling those did more than any new feature.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A hook that's mechanically meaningful, not cosmetic. A four-material economy that forces a real choice every ride. A Journey Map drawn as the ride itself. And a colour language that explains the nightfall mechanic without a word.
What we learned
Work backwards from the goal — once the spine was fixed, every system had an obvious job, and anything that didn't point at it got cut. Consistency is harder than ideas.
What's next for Long Ride Home
More towns and zones, horse bonding and breeding, new enemies, opt-in night raids, and co-op with an async trading post.
