Inspiration
When tasked with developing an interface for hydroponics, my initial step was to research, given my lack of understanding of the subject. As I delved deeper into my research, I learned the amount of scheduling and inspection that users must stick to to maintain their farms. The most effective approach to assisting farmers, as well as those interested in starting a hydroponic farm, is by providing them with a user-friendly database to monitor their crop's health. Factors, such as temperature, humidity, pH levels, electrical conductivity, and disease control, among others, influence the health of a farm. How can we design an intuitive and user-friendly interface to aid users in managing a hydroponic farm effectively?
What it does
Logit is a mobile app that empowers hydroponic farmers to maintain healthy crops by offering a user-friendly interface for logging plant health data, data collection, and access to educational resources
How we built it
After the challenge reveal, I went through research before wireframing a flow with 3 screens detailing a first user's onboarding process to them logging in their first entry. The app was built in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging part was doing research for an industry that is new to me. Although it is a beneficial technology, I had to do a lot of research before wireframing, and having no access to users and data made the task challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First, I am very proud of the learning that was part of the process and I am proud of the final deliverables and the solution. The overall process was challenging but also a great mental exercise and a test of creative thinking.
What we learned
A lot about hydroponics but most importantly how to turn desk research into features, to creatively come up with a solution to a problem that was not familiar, and how to navigate this challenge with the time available.
What's next for Logit
Iterating the onboarding process to make sure it is user-friendly, moving into a hi-fi phase for all the screens, and exploring the visual design. Ideally, user researching and surveying hydroponic farmers would be a major step into certifying Logit as accessible and it would ensure Logit is useful to hydroponic farmers. With today's technology, exploring tools to help cut on time spent manually logging changes would bump Logit to the innovative category
