Inspiration

The living room is the center of the modern home, yet interacting with smart devices often feels rigid. We wanted to build an agentic experience that feels conversational, fast, and intuitive. Inspired by the potential of the Alexa+ track and AWS Bedrock, Team LogicRippers set out to create a simulated web-based assistant that bridges the gap between complex cloud operations and everyday home routines.

What it does

LogicRippers AI Assistant is a high-throughput, simulated Alexa+ web interface. It processes natural language prompts—ranging from setting up evening smart home routines to explaining AWS architecture—and delivers rich, context-aware responses in real-time. The application features a premium dark-mode aesthetic with reactive chat bubbles, dynamic loading states, and auto-scrolling to mimic a production-ready conversational agent.

How we built it

We engineered the frontend using React Native and Expo, allowing for rapid UI development and seamless state management. To simulate the agentic backend, we integrated a direct REST API connection to a high-speed LLM (gemini-3.5-flash-lite). This allowed us to replicate the instantaneous response times expected from a physical smart-home device without the overhead of deploying a complex microservices architecture during a 48-hour sprint. The project is open-sourced under the MIT License.

Challenges we ran into

Our primary hurdle was managing network latency. During early testing, we routed our requests through a heavy reasoning model, which resulted in response times exceeding two minutes—completely breaking the illusion of a fast voice assistant. We debugged the integration and pivoted to a lightweight model optimized for high-throughput, real-time generation, bringing response times down to under 3 seconds. Additionally, safely managing environment variables to keep our API keys secure while publishing a public GitHub repository required careful version control management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud to have shipped a visually polished, fully functional MVP within a strict deadline. Transitioning from a blank local environment to a working AI interface—complete with error handling, asynchronous data fetching, and a sleek UI—demonstrates our ability to execute quickly and effectively.

What we learned

Building this project reinforced the importance of model selection in AI application development; bigger is not always better when latency is the primary constraint. We also refined our skills in React Native state management and learned how to securely publish open-source code while participating in a fast-paced hackathon.

What's next for LogicRippers AI Assistant

The next logical step is integrating actual speech-to-text APIs so users can speak to the browser rather than typing. From there, we want to replace the simulated text responses with real AWS Lambda and Bedrock integrations, allowing the assistant to actively trigger live API endpoints and control actual smart home hardware.
