Inspiration
We wanted to spread awareness about the environmental cost of producing foods such as poulty, beef, sugar, nuts, and many ingredients commonly used in cooking. This inspired us to create a dataset of ingredients and their carbon footprint.
What it does
The user selects the ingredients they wish. Ingredients are categorized by Fats, Proteins, and Carbohydrates. Then, the program will generate a sustainability score for that selection of ingredients, and a breakdown of what contributes most to the score.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build this. We also used Git and GitHub for source control.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled to find a lot of data, so we joined a few different datasets together. Moreover, we started in React, but had to switch to HTML, CSS, and JS.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We worked well together to decide on an idea/problem to solve.
What we learned
Learned how to work as a team, and learned how to search for datasets.
What's next for LogicalBite
We can add more ingredients and their carbon footprints, increase the complexity of the website by including measurements of ingredients, and switching to React.js because it is more powerful. We can also add a log-in and a backend.
