Inspiration
I've worked out at a bunch of different gyms in my life and the weight never feels the same at different gyms. Even at the same gym, some of the cable stacks and machines can be doing the same exercise, but you need to use different weights. Keeping track of what you last did on each of those machines helps me know what weight I should be using to keep progressive overload going
What it does
Logbook lets you track the gym and specific machine you used so you always know how much weight you should be using. For example, say that you switch between 2 gyms,. The chest press at gym A is a lot heavier than at gym B. When you are at gym A, you can do 180 pounds, but at gym B you can only 120 pounds. Both exercises are a chest press, but the weight you should use will vary drastically based on the gym you are at. Logbook lets you track the gym you were at so you always know how much weight you should be doing.
It also has a live activity so you can quickly start your rest timer from the lock screen, scheduled notifications so you always know when your rest timer ends, and stats so you can see the total amount of weight you moved per week/month/year/life time.
How we built it
It was built with expo, react-native, and some native swift UI components as well. I built it in my free time over the weekends with a lot of live testing while I was working out.
Challenges we ran into
Logbook has. alive activity on the lock screen so you can always see how much time is left on the rest timer and what your next set is. I had a lot of trouble getting this to render correctly and it took a lot of work and testing to get it into a workable spot. This was my first time using Swift so there was definitely a bit of a learning curve
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm most proud of the user experience for this. I've been using a different workout tracker for over 1000 workouts so I feel like I've got a pretty good idea of the UX for how a workout tracker should work. The flow feels very smooth to me and I've added a few quality of life improvements that I would have liked to see from my old workout tracker
What we learned
How long Apple Reviews can take and some Swift
What's next for Logbook
I have tons of features planned. Some social media like aspects, community created gyms, live scanning of machines to quickly add them to your gym, and so much more.
