Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the love of language, dictionaries, and the joy of learning new words. Locution is designed to help users expand their vocabulary and make them feel more articulate and confident in using new words.
What it does
Locution offers an engaging quiz experience that teaches users obscure and interesting English words. By introducing new vocabulary in an interactive way, Locution helps users learn meanings and pronunciations in a memorable, fun format.
How we built it
We developed Locution using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a smooth, functional web interface. We compiled a word bank in a JSON file containing unique words and definitions, which are loaded dynamically to keep the quizzes fresh.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was gathering a diverse list of obscure words that users would likely find unfamiliar yet intriguing. We also aimed to create a clean, visually appealing interface while keeping the design intuitive and responsive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the seamless and user-friendly interface we created, as well as the fact that Locution provides an enjoyable way for people to discover new words. The final product is both educational and visually appealing.
What we learned
Through this project, we expanded our own vocabulary and gained deeper insights into creating functional web applications with JSON-based data. This experience strengthened our skills in front-end development and user interaction.
What's next for Locution
We plan to develop a more interactive and customizable GUI that will offer additional features, such as personalized word lists, pronunciation aids, and gamified progress tracking. Our goal is to make learning new words even more engaging and accessible for everyone.
