Inspiration

Most language learning apps don't support active learning. They teach phrases using algorithms that prioritize memorization, using flashcards and scripted phrases.

What it does

Locus uses location from Google Maps API to accurately detect the user's location and OpenAI and Anthropic API to return three recommended phrases and one fun fact of the user's location.

How we built it

Through a React framework, fast API, and Google Maps/OpenAI/Anthropic APIs

Challenges we ran into

We ran into various challenges, from API keys, merge conflicts, to synchronizing cohesive environments across different devices (ie: mobile, desktop).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Deploying a working application that works on mobile devices within 48 hours!

What we learned

This was many of our first times using and integrating APIs, as well as creating/deploying an application

What's next for Locus

Expanding to all different types of mobile technologies, and adding caching/backend to support a larger user base without crashing
