🔧 About the Project
Inspiration
My inspiration for creating Locked and Loaded came from an existing mobile game I enjoy called Last War Survival. There's a segment in that game called Frontline Breakthrough, where the players have to choose the correct path while dodging obstacles. It’s designed to be fast-paced and engaging, testing both reflexes and decision-making under pressure; I found that part incredibly fun, challenging and addicting, and I thought—why not try to recreate something similar in Horizon Worlds?
Game Overview
The game I created is called Locked and Loaded. It’s essentially a timed obstacle course where players must navigate a series of challenges in order to complete the level. It’s designed to be fast-paced and engaging, testing both reflexes and decision-making under pressure.
How I Built It
So in early 2025, I decided that I was up to the challenge. My building experience in Meta Horizon Worls consists of 1 published world basically from an existing Meta template however I did hone my skills a little from watching online tutorials and collaborating with other players. I have no other coding experience so this was going to be a very steep learning curve for me in this very short timeframe. New to Blender, the Meta Desktop Editor and with the help of some AI tools, I was off to the races!
The first 3 levels are designed to be simple and a glimpse of what is to come. I plan to introduce NPCs as additional obstacles along with additional weapon bonuses and surprises! Levels 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 are currently in the works. Levels 1 and 2 were published in mid-April and level 3, shortly after. And based on the in game stats, it has been a huge success with several returning players trying to better their scores and outrank one another.
What I Learned
This project has pushed me to keep learning, especially with codeblocks and typescript. I’ve been watching tutorials, including from creators like VidYuu and others, to understand game logic and design. I also began exploring Blender, with the goal of eventually importing custom 3D models and images to further enhance my worlds.
Challenges
Time has played a huge factor in the completion of this game. I enjoy my evenings in VR interacting with others and building a few things here and there. But entering into this contest, with very limited knowledge of the platform and the tools, had me wondering why i even attempted this project in the first place. But, I did it! :)
Extra Thoughts
In the coming months, I plan to leverage typescript in order to provide more flexibility and enhance the game play. As of today, I have a working, mobile ready, interactive game built from the ground up. That alone feels like a huge win for me! I hope you can find time to visit and perhaps place yourself on our Leaderboards!
