LocalShareTV — Share More Than Files. Share Love.

Bringing families closer, one memory at a time.

The Story Behind LocalShareTV

Every project begins with a problem. For me, LocalShare started with something simple: I wanted an Android app that I could use in my own daily life.

I began building a personal file-sharing app for my phone. As I developed it, the project grew beyond my original idea. I created LocalShare for Android, an app that lets people share folders from their phone over a local Wi-Fi network or hotspot and access them through a web browser.

But the bigger idea came when I was exploring Devpost hackathons and discovered the Amazon Developer Hackathon's Fire TV track.

That discovery made me look at my project differently.

The Problem I Started Thinking About

Think about a family returning home after a wedding. Everyone wants to watch the photos, videos, and special moments on the big television. Perhaps it's a birthday celebration, a family trip, a festival, or a wedding video that everyone wants to experience together.

But getting those memories onto a TV can be inconvenient. You might need to copy files to a USB drive, install another app, configure a complicated connection, or use up precious storage on an Android TV device.

And Android TV devices can have limited storage, making it impractical to keep every large video or collection of family photos on the TV itself.

I started wondering:

What if your phone could become the bridge between your memories and your television?

What if a family could enjoy its favourite photos and videos on a big screen without having to transfer their entire collection to the TV first?

That question became the inspiration for LocalShareTV.

From a Personal Android App to a TV Experience

Instead of treating my phone app and the TV app as separate ideas, I wanted to connect them.

The vision is simple: the phone holds the files, while the TV provides a bigger screen on which to explore and enjoy them. LocalShareTV is being developed as the television side of this experience, with local-network sharing at its core.

The aim is to make it easier to browse photos, watch videos, enjoy music, and access shared files from the comfort of the living room.

My existing Android project provides the foundation for this idea:

The TV experience builds on that journey by focusing on a different environment: the shared family screen.

Why This Matters to Me

Technology is often measured by speed, specifications, and features. But some of its most meaningful uses are much more personal.

A wedding video is not just a video file. It carries a memory of a family coming together.

A photograph is not just an image. It can bring back a moment that people never want to forget.

A family movie night is not simply content playing on a television. It is time spent together.

I want LocalShareTV to help remove the technical friction between having those memories on a phone and enjoying them together on a larger screen.

The goal is not merely to transfer files. It is to make sharing experiences feel natural.

My Vision

I started LocalShare because I wanted something useful for myself. Exploring the Fire TV hackathon helped me see how that personal project could become part of a broader experience.

LocalShareTV represents the next step in that journey: connecting everyday Android devices with the television in a way that puts people and their memories first.

I want to keep improving the experience, making it easier to use, reducing unnecessary setup, and exploring how phones and televisions can work together over a local network.

Because at the end of the day, the files are only part of the story.

The real value is the people watching them together.

LocalShareTV

Share More Than Files. Share Love.

Share the moments. Watch together. Create memories.
