Small businesses have suffered a lot due to the COVID-19 pandemic and many people have expressed their interest in starting their own businesses while in quarantine so we wanted to create a platform that would provide them with easy access to the tools and resources they need to build a successful business.

What it does

LocalScale is a platform that connects small business owners to potential consultants who can help improve their business or even provide advice to users who are looking to start their own business. Our site offers a variety of consulting services from business strategy to design.

How we built it

We built our project using Figma for planning/prototyping, HTML, CSS, and Javascript for the front-end web application, Firebase and Google products for login function.

Challenges we ran into

  • Linking pages together
  • Figma not exporting to HTML
  • Maintaining consistency between our individual works

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the many challenges and bugs we had to overcome, we’re proud of our final output, considering this was the first hackathon for most of us. We’re proud that we were able to come up with a concrete solution to a huge problem that small businesses face at this time and that we were able to somehow bring this idea to life in just a few hours.

What we learned

We learned how to create a web application that provides a variety of services and how to attach back-end code to the HTML and CSS then deploying the site to a domain.

What's next for LocalScale

If we were to continue this project, we would add in user chat, a sustainable supplier resource, investment features, and other services useful to small businesses. In addition, we also discussed the possibility of allowing potential customers to access the site and allow them to support their local businesses.
