Inspiration
In order to help local businesses, as part of social good, we brainstormed ideas of a smartphone app or website to help local businesses, especially during the pandemic. After looking through methods to support local businesses, we decided to settle on this project idea. Most notably, we tried to take into consideration buying local products, going to the stores, and developing customer loyalty from the methods in the article.
What it does
Our project is a smartphone app that allows customers to view local businesses in the area. Once a business is selected, the customer can then view the menu for the restaurant or list of products for the shop and can add them to a cart. Customers will then pay on the app and pick up what they ordered at the store.
How we built it
We used React-Native for app development alongside our knowledge of JavaScript and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We are inexperienced with working with React-Native, which became a challenge. Development was slower and harder than expected as we are not familiar with using React-Native and had to take time to learn concepts. We were hoping to be able to complete more of the original idea but due to time constraints, it is incomplete.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the functionality of the app and how clean the UI looks.
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of app development and became more familiar with working with React Native.
What's next for LocalMart
First, a more complete product with a cart and purchase menu. Then, more features for users, such as maps to show locations of local businesses and better customization for business owners.
