COVID 19 face shield printing was disorganized and could have helped save lives. We want to help connect people who have a need to find skilled "makers" with equipment such as 3D printers, CNC mills, wood routers, table saws, etc.
What it does
Organizes communities to help connect people who have blueprints that they want to make with people that have the equipment to craft those projects.
How we built it
We used firebase for the backend, and expo/react-native for the front end.
Challenges we ran into
We are all still pretty new with mobile app development and any sort of firebase use so we were learning as we were working on this project!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though it was only done in 24 hours and there are bugs we were still able to have a somewhat functional app.
What we learned
We need to better plan what we are doing, and how we developed it. There were several times where we weren't sure how to go about a problem and we spent a really long time discussing instead of researching and trying to implement things. We also needed to pre-plan things better before the hackathon started but we ended up wasting about 2 hours just planning and fleshing out the idea.
What's next for MakeLocal
We will keep working on this as time allows and see if we can get some real users on the platform!
