Inspiration

I personally have done a good amount of volunteer work with my mom working for a non-profit, but I have found it not very engaging and quite boring. I feel like and have asked around and people in my school also agreed that volunteer work is quite boring. This can make people not want to go and do good for their community.

What it does

It gamifies community service by giving experience points and levels for completing volunteer work. It allows you to also compete against other users in leaderboards to see who can get the most hours.

How we built it

We built it using GitHub code spaces on our school computers and home computers using any spare free time we could get. It is compiled of HTML, CSS, and JS. It involves a database with Cloudflare to allow for verification of activities. We used GitHub copilot GPT-6 Luna to assist in making the website functional and looking good in time.

Challenges we ran into

I found it very, very difficult to set up the whole email system, as I am completely new to anything close to Cloudflare and setting up email systems for website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am so proud that I can actually verify community service submitted by the website because I have never done anything like this before. We are proud that we have a working leaderboard and that you can create actual saved accounts, something also new to me.

What we learned

I learned so much about setting up Cloudflare related things and also jogged my memory on coding with HTML, CSS, and JS.

What's next for Local Volunteering

I would like to add so many features, I would like the opportunities page to actually find opportunities and I would also like to add more onto the leaderboards; ex. local and weekly.
