Inspiration

This website was created while keeping the needs of small business and their customers in mind. We created a win win situation that will be beneficial to both sides. Small businesses have always had a lot of competition from larger businesses but during these difficult times even more so. We hope to allow our customers to shop for more unique pieces while also keeping their community businesses open.

What it does

Our platform offers a variety of different resources that users are able to navigate around which will help our customers find the right small business for them. On the directory page we have a list of all of the small businesses on our platform. We used the Google Maps API to embed all of the businesses close to you on our find page. In addition to that, we have a blog page where we feature a different small business each month and offer a coupon valid through that month.

How we built it

We used a bootstrap for the basic formatting of the website but we also used a lot of our own HTML and CSS. In addition to that, we used a Google Maps API to create the find page. For the images, we used images from a website (with credit), uncopyrighted images, and some of our own designs.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of technical problems which in some cases deleted our work. We had to go back and re-do many things which took up more time than we expected. Another challenge we ran into is that we took a long time figuring out the code for how the contact form was going to work. The maps API also gave us a bit of trouble with the code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we worked hard and kept persisting even though we faced many technical problems. The Google Maps API, formatting, and images took a long time to get right but eventually we did. We are also proud of the fact that we worked extremely well as a team and were able to use our time wisely.

What we learned

We learned more about how a bootstrap works and how they are different from each other. We also figured out some tips and tricks to use in GitHub which will be really helpful for us next time we make a project on that platform. In addition to these, we learned how to plan out our work and use our time wisely which is a really good skill to have.

What's next for Local Style

We would like to expand our website so that we can accommodate all types of small businesses. This would really improve our platform and offer more resources for the user. We would also like to add more information about the small businesses, this could include: services they offer, hours they are open, distance from you, and more. Another feature we would like to add is to be able to have a search bar on the find page so the user can put in their address and find local small businesses easily.
