Inspiration
Our team's passion for exploring nature has been the driving force behind this project. We take pleasure in discovering hidden gems in our neighborhoods, parks, and landmarks that bring us closer as four adventurous friends. With LocaLove, we aim to establish a community-driven platform that allows everyone to share their favorite spots across the city and nation, creating a fun and vibrant space for all to explore the unknown. Join us in our journey to discover the beauty of the world around us!
What it does
Local-Love is an interactive map that encourages people to share their favorite places that bring them joy, and help others discover new happy places too! Our user-friendly platform has a spot creator that allows you to mark your interesting places by either filling them in manually or through your current location. You can also add features of the location and add street addresses and zip codes to create a precise location. If you want to find inspiration for places to visit, look no further than our local viewer where you can view local spots around your area or even in the whole world!
How we built it
We utilized HTML and JavaScript through leaflet.js to build the structural foundation of our website, while also incorporating CSS to add a visually appealing and vibrant background.
Challenges we ran into
We faced some challenges while trying to add additional features to our website, such as a personal recommendation system that could identify the features our users view the most using our Local Viewer. Our aim was to send recommendations of other places in their area and across the world that they would like to visit. Additionally, we had planned to integrate a data management system within the website using Google Cloud, but we faced a paywall which hindered our progress. As a result, our website's backend has room for improvement with respect to future endeavors in this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a functioning website that captured our vision of creating a system that allows anyone in the world to add or view new and interesting spots to go on adventures with. We believe we have successfully created our overall vision of a fun and collaborative community for our project. We are thrilled to have leveraged our expertise to craft a platform that promotes social good and supports a shared love of exploration.
What we learned
As this was our first hackathon as a team, we learned more about ourselves as coders and collaborators. On the technical side, we learned how to implement HTML, CSS, and JS together to create a beautiful website that emulated our vision. We learned the difficulties of creating a database management system and trying to incorporate it into our website
What's next for Local-Love
We plan to build on Local-Love in the future to implement more markers and obtain a structured database system for all the spot creations. Additionally, we want to images and descriptions for locations that could be entered in by the user.
