Inspiration
After noticing that people in our own community struggle even to discover local businesses that are concurrently experiencing significant cultural and financial decline, we decided it's high time someone rises to the occasion and makes sure anyone can appreciate their own community, starting with ours: Cypress, TX.
What it does
LocalLink provides a centralized platform that highlights Cypress’s small businesses, community services, and events, making it easier for residents to discover, support, and stay connected to what’s happening locally.
How we built it
We developed LocalLink using a clean, efficient tech stack: React JS for the frontend, Flask as the backend framework, SQLite for database management, and TypeScript as our base language to keep the code consistent and maintainable.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting each part of the stack into one seamless system was challenging at first. The frontend, backend, and database didn’t always communicate smoothly, but after restructuring our workflow and refining our integrations, we achieved the reliable performance you see in our platform.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within the short timeframe given, we successfully turned a need we see every day in our community into a functioning platform. We’re proud that LocalLink not only works but also brings real value while showing strong potential for future expansion.
What we learned
Throughout the process, we learned how important it is to balance frontend design, backend logic, and data organization. Building LocalLink taught us how to structure a full-stack application effectively while ensuring every part fits together smoothly.
What's next for Local Link
With more time, we plan to add richer event listings, expand business onboarding, introduce personalized local recommendations, and bring in more interactive community features to help residents shape their own local directory.
