Inspiration

As environmental concerns grow, CO2 emissions has become increasingly prevalent. we aim to reduce CO2 emissions, first starting with food miles. We aim to solve this by highlighting locally sourced products and linking them to the consumers.

What it does

Local Footprints is all about connecting people with the food and producers in their own communities. By highlighting locally sourced products, we make it easy for consumers to discover fresh, sustainable options while supporting independent businesses. In bridging the gap between those who grow the food and those who enjoy it, we create stronger communities, foster transparency in our food systems, and help ensure that the benefits of local, sustainable food reach everyone.

How we built it

We started by decomposing the problem into more manageable subproblems which we then distributed them among us based on each person's strengths and experiences.

Challenges we ran into

Managing how the three languages we used interact together (Python, JavaScript, HTML) Working to solve merge conflicts when using git

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing our first hackathon project. Building a functional prototype in a short amount of time. Successfully integrating a live API to map local businesses.

What we learned

We learnt how to use an API and implement it into our project to map out the businesses given an address. Some of us learn how to program in a new language (python, CSS, JavaScript) We also learnt how to work collaboratively using git

What's next for Local Footprints

Improving the accuracy of results by getting key information such as food miles of a specific product from each vendor. Adding user accounts for personalised recommendations. Expanding categorisation and filtering options.
