Local Cuisine

Inspiration

With the decline of COVID, and the spark of interest in travel, we wanted to showcase the diverse cultures around the world and how they are expressed through their food.

What it does

Displays information about the local cuisine in a given location through an AI-powered algorithm to give detailed and dynamic responses to the user.

How we built it

For the frontend, we used VueJS and NuxtJS. Additionally, we used the ChatGPT API, and DallE API to generate information and images of the food.

Challenges we ran into

Due to using the ChatGPT and DallE API to generate responses for the user, it caused the performance of our website to slow down, as it would take a while to load images and information for the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned how to work with a database, and how to develop a request-response cycle with a frontend and backend server in our website

What we learned

We learned how intensive and strenuous it can be when sending multiple requests to the API's, to the point where it greatly impacts the performance of our website

What's next for Local Cuisine

We plan to tweak the design and layout of our app for a seamless and informative experience for the user. Additionally we plan to store previous searched places into a database to keep track of a user's past history and to help load images faster.
