Local Care
Inspiration
Our project, Local Care, is inspired by existing doctor search engines. We aimed to streamline the process of finding the right specialist by enhancing the search experience, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
What It Does
Local Care is a comprehensive platform designed to guide users to the appropriate medical specialist based on their symptoms. The application filters through an extensive database of healthcare professionals, allowing users to narrow down their search using various criteria such as:
- Rating
- Gender
- Experience
- Price per Consultation
This ensures that users can find a specialist that best fits their specific needs and preferences.
How We Built It
We developed Local Care using React for the frontend, leveraging its component-based architecture for a responsive and dynamic user interface. The backend is powered by client-side JavaScript, enabling efficient data handling and real-time filtering capabilities.
Challenges We Faced
During the development process, we encountered several challenges:
- Underestimating Development Effort: While defining functionalities and features, we initially underestimated the time and resources required for development. However, by maintaining a manageable scope, we successfully completed most of our planned features.
- Team Environment Setup: Coordinating the coding environment for the entire team proved difficult. Ensuring consistency and compatibility across different setups required additional effort and collaboration.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We take pride in delivering a functional iteration of Local Care that is user-friendly and virtually free of noticeable bugs. Achieving a stable and reliable product within our timeline was a significant milestone for our team.
What We Learned
One of the key lessons from this project is the critical importance of setting up the coding environment at the project's outset. To ensure smooth collaboration, it's essential to:
- Standardize Prerequisites: Make sure all team members have the necessary tools and configurations installed beforehand.
- Provide Clear Documentation: Develop a concise and informative startup guide to assist team members in setting up their environments quickly and efficiently.
What's Next for Local Care
We have several exciting plans to enhance Local Care further: Availability Filtering: Allow users to filter specialists based on their availability, ensuring timely consultations. Geolocation Features: Enable users to drop an origin point on a map to find doctors within a specific radius, with additional filters based on city or province. Advanced Sorting Options: Improve filtering capabilities by allowing sorting based on distance, price (lowest to highest), rating, and experience. AI Integration for Symptom Analysis: Incorporate an AI trained on medical data to analyze user-inputted symptoms. This AI will recommend relevant specialists without diagnosing the issue, directing users to the most suitable professionals for their concerns. Image Recognition Capabilities: If image AI technology becomes more accessible, we plan to integrate it into our platform. For example, users could upload a photo of a concerned area (e.g., an arm) to quickly determine if medical attention is needed.
