Inspiration
To support communities and connect people with small businesses in their area.
What it does
This app either grabs a geolocation from the user's browser or waits for user location input. It queries a weather API to determine which businesses and activities to display, and queries a local business API to display results. Users can then filter results dependant on their interests.
How we built it
We built the front-end using Bootstrap and custom CSS. The back-end was built in ExpressJS with third-party APIs.
Challenges we ran into
Finding free APIs that would provide us the information we needed, such as local business listings. Implementing a feature for the browser to grab the user's GPS coordinates. Delegating tasks and work-flow plans.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Collaborating in a team environment under a time crunch and having the shell of an app that we can complete at a later date. We had an amazing team effort!
What we learned
In the future, we would like to focus on a work-flow plan and clear delegation of tasks. Phil and Salina also learned a new back-end framework.
What's next for Local Business Web App
Integrate the front-end and back-end and plan out new features.
