Inspiration
Our goal is to promote inclusivity and ensure safety for all individuals by providing comprehensive accessibility and safety assessments of buildings and areas on the UCSD campus. Through this platform, users will have the opportunity to submit safety and accessibility tickets for areas that require attention. Additionally, users will able to browse through location cards to check their safety and accessibility ratings. By exploring our resources and contributing by submitting tickets, let's make a positive impact on accessibility and safety in our communities.
What it does
Our platform will display a map of all relevant/common use buildings in the local area and present the accessibility of the building through a few various factors including the presence of objects like ramps, washrooms, and elevators. Users can also submit tickets using hte submit a ticket feature to input a place that they think others should know about, along with a description of what is good/bad about the place and they can indicate the presence of utilities. Their input then will get fed into our map.
How we built it
We used the MERN tech stack to create our project.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was integrating the frontend and the backend. Our data from MongoDB would not get read by our frontend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to learn about various backend features as well as integrating frontend with it, although it was a steep learning curve.
What we learned
We learned a lot about working realtime together as a team as well as just being able to use the MERN tech stack.
What's next for Local Accessibility
We could potentially go beyond local areas and building and use the feature for other factors as well like accessible cities and potentially allow ways for users to communicate with others through our platform. Local officials can understand what to improve about the infrastructure as well.
