Inspiration
The release of the October 2025 LMA Transition Loan guidance highlighted a clear gap: while banks are expected to assess and monitor credible transition plans, there is no practical tooling to apply these principles at scale especially for SMEs. We were inspired by the disconnect between high-level transition frameworks and the operational reality of SME lending.
What it does
Transition Sentinel is a web-based decision-support platform that helps banks and SMEs prepare, review, and monitor transition loan documentation aligned with the October 2025 LMA Transition Loan guidance. It structures SME inputs, translates them into LMA-mapped transition disclosures, provides a forward-looking Transition Readiness Score with confidence indicators, and supports lightweight monitoring with human oversight.
How we built it
We built a demo-ready web application using a modern React-based frontend and a lightweight mock backend. The app focuses on UX clarity, conservative language, and human-in-the-loop design. All benchmarks, scoring logic, and alerts use mocked data to demonstrate workflow and decision support—without claiming certification, verification, or regulatory authority. It is built using Bolt
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing credibility with ambition. Transition finance is highly sensitive to greenwashing and regulatory risk, so we had to be disciplined about scope—avoiding over-automation, over-claiming compliance, or replacing human judgment while still showing clear value and innovation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Translating the October 2025 LMA Transition Loan guidance into a tangible, bank-ready workflow Designing a tool that explicitly supports—not replaces—human decision-making Creating a demo that banks can realistically imagine piloting with SME clients Showing how transition finance can be scaled without relying on expensive, bespoke consulting
What we learned
We learned that in regulated financial markets, restraint is a feature. Judges and banks value transparency, auditability, and human accountability more than complex AI or bold claims. Operationalizing standards is often more impactful than inventing new ones.
What's next for Transition Loan Sentinel
Piloting with banks actively implementing the October 2025 LMA Transition Loan framework Expanding sector-specific transition heuristics Integrating portfolio-level reporting for transition-focused funding programs Exploring partnerships with sustainability teams and external assurance providers The long-term goal is to become a trusted transition finance enablement layer for SME lending.
