Inspiration
We wanted to create a socially focused Mixed Reality game that emphasizes interaction between people and meaningful connection. Inspired by the theme of Dreams, we were drawn to the idea of two different individuals visualizing their dreams based on the same prompt. Seeing how each person interprets the same theme in a unique way creates a powerful social experience. It opens opportunities for discussion, allowing players to learn more about one another by reflecting on the similarities and differences in what they draw and why they made those choices.
Beyond simple interaction, the experience is designed to encourage empathy, reflection, and emotional understanding. By sharing personal interpretations of abstract themes, players are not just playing together—they are learning about each other’s inner worlds and perspectives. The game becomes a space for storytelling, dialogue, and human connection rather than competition.
What it does
Everyone’s dreams are different, even when responding to the same prompt. For example, when we tested the theme Safety, each of us imagined completely different things—such as a gun, a home, or a cat. The experience encourages players to draw what comes naturally to them, then explore the other person’s inner thoughts by reflecting on what they envisioned and why.
The experience begins in a closed, private Mixed Reality space, creating a safe and comfortable environment for personal expression. Each player responds to a set of guided prompts, using simple drawing tools to create their ideas and dreams. These individual spaces allow for freedom, vulnerability, and creativity without pressure or judgment. When the wall disappears, the two separate rooms merge into one shared MR environment. Players step into a combined space where both dream worlds coexist, forming a single shared story. Their individual drawings become part of a collective narrative
How we built it
Unity, Meta Quest SDK, Unity Networking
Challenges we ran into
A syncyed full networked drawing game was a signficant undertaking for the time period of the challenge and our biggest issues were with networking and hand tracking
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The drawing mechanic is fully networked and drawings made by each player can be viewed in a shared space
What we learned
We learned a signifigant amount about the Meta SDK, particuarlly handtracking and colocation

In future iterations, the experience can expand beyond fixed prompts. Players could choose from a wider range of themes, customize prompts, or even create prompts for each other. This would give users greater freedom to explore topics they care about, challenge each other’s perspectives, and engage in deeper emotional and reflective conversations. Over time, the game could evolve into a flexible platform for storytelling, connection, and shared imagination, where every session becomes a new version of This Is Our Story.
