Inspiration

Due to Covid, most small businesses lost their customers. Research showed that more than 56K businesses closed in June amid coronavirus fallout. We wanted to create a platform that supports and helps small business owners. Small businesses play an important role in the economy and supporting local communities. We wanted to create something that could help this issue and work towards a positive social change.

What it does

LOCO Market ( Local Community Market) is an E-Commerce platform for small business owners, helping them to increase their online sales/brand awareness with a simple and intuitive UI. Unlike other E-commerce platforms, LOCO Market doesn’t charge service fees for each order. Instead, LOCO Market for business owners is free to use at its base level but does include a paid option that provides business owners with features at a subscription base level. These features would include analytics and digital marketing to help grow their business.

For individuals, LOCO Market is an easy-to-use site that helps them discover small businesses around them that they might not be aware of. By creating more awareness we hope individuals will choose to support small businesses for their day to day needs.

How we built it

We used Figma to create a functional prototype of LOCO Market. We started by conducting a competitive analysis. After researching for E-commerce and Business management services, we were able to gather insight regarding what features are needed for the sellers/customers helping us make informed design decisions.

Challenges we ran into

Since our team did not have any coding experience we were limited to creating a high-fidelity prototype.

Also, our team had little experience with designing an eCommerce web experience, so we were learning along the way. We’ve only used an E-commerce platform as a customer, not a seller thus, It was challenging to truly understand what business owners need and what problems they’re facing with our primary research.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re very proud of developing a design for LOCO Market that seeks to help and connect small business owners with locals. The final product turned out to meet our design principle which is a simple & intuitive UI within the 24 hours time constraint.

What we learned

We learned how badly Covid affected the small business owners and why they can’t keep up with their business due to lack of support and ridiculously expensive service fees from existing platforms.

Connecting individuals to support and coexist with local businesses creates a community that aims towards a positive social change, helping solve this issue.

What's next for LOCO Market

We would like to collaborate with developers in the future to explore the viability of this product along with enhancing the user experience.
