Inspiration During the COVID-19 pandemic, we observed how traditional learning systems failed to support both students and teachers in remote or hybrid settings. Students struggled to stay motivated and engaged, while educators lacked proper tools to personalize learning or track progress effectively. This gap in learning inspired us to build a more intelligent, accessible, and interactive LMS — one that adapts to individual learners, supports educators, and goes beyond simply delivering content.
What it does Our LMS platform provides a complete learning ecosystem. It allows students to follow personalized learning paths, access AI-generated quizzes and summaries, participate in live mentorship sessions, and track their progress. Educators can manage content, monitor student performance through built-in analytics, and interact with learners via real-time collaboration tools like whiteboards and chat. The system supports multimedia content, automated assessments, and works even in low-bandwidth environments.
How we built it We used a full-stack development approach with React.js and Tailwind CSS on the frontend for a clean, responsive UI. On the backend, we used Node.js and Express with MongoDB for scalable data handling. Authentication was implemented using JWT with role-based access control. For intelligent features, we integrated OpenAI and Gemini APIs to auto-generate quizzes, summarize content, and personalize recommendations. Real-time features like whiteboards and chat were built using WebSocket-based communication.
Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges was designing adaptive learning logic that adjusts content based on user performance. We also faced issues processing and converting different file types (like PDFs and videos) into usable learning material using AI. Ensuring real-time features worked smoothly in low-connectivity areas was another major technical hurdle. Creating a simple yet powerful UI that works for both students and educators took several iterations and user feedback rounds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully built a working LMS that integrates AI-driven features, supports real-time learning interactions, and personalizes education for each user. We're especially proud of the auto-quiz generator from content files, the clean user experience, and the ability to offer live mentor support — all of which were built from scratch. Launching a product that works even with limited internet connectivity is something we consider a big achievement.
What we learned We learned how to apply AI meaningfully in education, beyond just hype — using it to solve real problems like content summarization and learner engagement. We also gained experience in building scalable full-stack applications, implementing real-time communication, and designing accessible user experiences. Collaborating across roles and testing with real users taught us the value of iterative design and feedback.
What's next for LMS We plan to expand the LMS with voice-based assistants for hands-free learning, support for regional languages, gamified learning modules, and integration with external learning platforms like Coursera or YouTube. We’re also working on advanced analytics for educators and administrators to gain deeper insights into learner behavior and performance. Our goal is to make learning more natural, personalized, and accessible for everyone.
