Inspiration
My own pain!!! I am a husband and father to three wonderful children, and I can't recall now the number of times I've asked or my wife have asked me "babe, when did the baby eat last time" and "how much did you give her/him?"
What it does
Livy - Fed on Time is a simple app that helps you log how often and how much you are feeding your formula-fed baby, reminding you 5 mins before it's time for the next bottle, it provides some helpful guidance, but the main value proposition is the simplicity and the gamification of the app, allowing people to choose a calm character to help them along the way.
How we built it
I built it using Flutter as my framework, and for now it's only available for iOS but for future releases can be also available on Android too, for the database, auth and cloud functions like push notifications, I am using firebase as my preferred choice, super simple to integrate with flutter and very cost effective, of course I leveraged a LOT of help from AI, in conjunction with Higgsfield for Voxel generated graphics.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge for this app was when to choose a model in hope of making the build journey as cost effective as possible, with the launch of Fable it was the number 1 candidate to do the first and most labor intensive work, including the prompts to higgsfield to come up with nice graphics, but then just building the tool and the small fixes after the first version of the MVP, becomes extremely expensive to do it with the same model, so switching to something like Opus helps maintaining the quality of product while also staying within the quota of tokens.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI and simplicity of the app, I myself started using it of course, and both my wife and I loved it, I am specially proud of the onboarding experience, it makes it really feel personalized for something as important as feeding our children when they are in such a beautiful and busy stage.
What we learned
Simpler is better, this is not the only app in the space, but our differentiators are: 1- This is for formula-fed babies. 2- The app and its UI is very simplistic yet very beautiful
What's next for Livy - Fed On Time
On this V1 I build the core features that I was in need of, as user feedback continues to come in, I have in the pipeline to release it to android, translating it to spanish and portuguese.
