Living World: Wind & Water – Devpost Submission
Inspiration
When building environments with the Gen AI Environment Generator, I realized that a beautiful landscape can still feel static and lifeless without motion. I wanted a quick, no-hassle way to make every world feel alive with trees swaying and water rippling without requiring manual setup for every object.
What it does
Living World: Wind & Water automatically connects your environment’s tree leaves and water planes to controllers that drive natural wind and water animations. With one drag and drop and a single prompt to the Gen AI Assistant, your entire scene transforms into a living, breathing world. Configuration menus are included so creators can easily adjust wind intensity, water speed, and animation strength.
How I built it
This project was built with the help of GenAI tools from start to finish. I used GenAI to write and refine the scripts, then combined them into a single streamlined object, Living World: Wind & Water, so creators only need to drop in one asset. Finally, I designed a clear Gen AI Assistant prompt that automatically attaches all relevant objects to the correct controllers and activates their animations, eliminating tedious manual linking.
Challenges I ran into
- Getting the GenAI to generate the exact script I needed took experimentation and multiple iterations.
- Finding a way to make setup nearly effortless while still giving creators full control.
- Ensuring the Gen AI Assistant could reliably target the right objects in a wide variety of scenes.
- Combining multiple controller scripts without breaking compatibility or creating conflicts.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Cutting setup time down to just a few minutes with a single drag and drop and prompt.
- Creating a tool that works in almost any environment setup, big or small.
- Making it easier for creators of all skill levels to add polish and immersion to their worlds.
What I learned
- How to structure clear and reliable prompts for the Gen AI Assistant to execute multiple steps in order.
- How to work with GenAI effectively to generate usable scripts and refine them into production-ready code.
- How to streamline multiple scripts into one without losing functionality.
- The value of automation and simplicity when designing tools for other creators.
What's next for Living World: Wind & Water
- Expanding the system to support additional environment elements such as clouds, grass movement, and dynamic sky effects.
- Creating a “Living World” series of assets like Living World: Day & Night or Living World: Seasonal Changes to give creators even more ways to make their worlds immersive with minimal effort.
- Continuing to improve the included configuration menus for wind intensity, water speed, and animation strength to make them even more intuitive and customizable.
