Inspiration

Companies generate contracts at a massive scale, but reviewing them remains a highly manual bottleneck. In the corporate world, business moves fast, but legal decisions often don’t scale with them. Legal teams are forced to read through endless pages of standard text just to verify if an agreement aligns with company policies.

We realized that business teams shouldn't have to guess, and legal teams shouldn't have to review boilerplate text. That inspired us to create a solution that scales legal decisions alongside business growth.

What it does

We built the Living Playbook Engine. It is an automated contract review system that bridges the gap between legal and business teams. When a user uploads a contract, the system:

Breaks it down: Extracts the text and parses it into individual clauses.

Compares it: Evaluates every clause against a company’s established internal legal playbook.

Triages it: Categorizes the text into clear, actionable states:

🟢 What’s safe → Move forward

🟡 What needs review → Flagged

🔴 What requires legal attention → Escalated

Instead of just highlighting text, the engine provides context, reasoning, and suggested fixes for the escalated clauses. Lawyers only see the clauses that actually matter. Over time, the system learns from past negotiations to continuously improve the playbook.

How I built it

Front End: Next.JS and React BackEnd: Python

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Winning the Siemens Challenge! Placing 3rd Overall at Munich Hacking Legal out of a highly competitive field. Building a fully functional, end-to-end prototype of the Living Playbook Engine in just a single weekend. Successfully bridging the gap between a complex legal problem and a clean, user-friendly technical solution.
