Inspiration
My child is currently starting solid foods and being monitored for allergic reactions. While caring for our baby, my wife also has to research foods, plan combinations, remember restrictions, and record every reaction. I wanted to build a practical assistant that could reduce this workload while supporting our child’s healthy and safe development.
What it does
Livia Beikost is a German-Chinese baby-weaning assistant designed to reduce the research, planning, and recording workload for caregivers. It provides age-based food guidance, pairing and incompatibility information, allergy-status tracking, TCM food classifications, a feeding diary, meal planning, and progress tracking.
How we built it
I built the app with Codex as a mobile-first, self-contained HTML application. Its food database, recommendations, allergy states, pairing rules, and bilingual content are managed through structured data, while local storage preserves user records, settings, and theme preferences.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was planning and building a logical, maintainable application architecture. I also had to understand unfamiliar knowledge related to infant feeding, allergies, and TCM food classifications, then translate it into clear information architecture and user-friendly interactions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Livia Beikost is the first fully usable app I have developed myself. More importantly, my wife is already using it in daily life and her feedback has been very positive. For me, the greatest value of vibe coding is that it helped turn an idea into a practical product that solves a real problem.
What we learned
This project reshaped my development process. With Codex handling much of the implementation work, I could focus more attention on the core product questions: whether the idea is valuable, whether the product structure is clear, and whether the target user and their real needs are properly understood.
What's next for Livia Beikost
The next step is to collect more user feedback and continue improving the UX. I also plan to obtain professional medical input, expand and refine the food database, add secure synchronization and family sharing, introduce reaction trend analysis, and support exportable reports for discussions with paediatric professionals.
