Inspiration
The inspiration for LiverStrong came from the alarming rise in alcohol-related liver disease and the lack of accessible, engaging resources that promote awareness and prevention. We wanted to create a platform that educates people on liver health in a visually appealing, straightforward way—something that could resonate with both those directly affected and the general public. The goal was to turn data and facts into actionable knowledge that could truly save lives.
What it does
LiverStrong is a web-based awareness platform that educates users about alcohol-related liver disease. It provides key facts, prevention tips, visual guides, and access to helpful resources like support hotlines and medical information. Users can navigate through dedicated sections to learn about the disease, how to prevent it, and where to seek help if needed. It’s a digital hub for awareness, empowerment, and action.
How we built it
We built LiverStrong using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on clean design and accessibility. Font Awesome icons were integrated for a modern visual appeal, while high-quality imagery was sourced to enhance user engagement. The site is responsive and designed to work across devices. External links and future-ready navigation allow for expansion into more pages like personal stories and research updates.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was striking the right tone—educational but not overwhelming or clinical. We wanted the content to be medically sound yet approachable. Another challenge was organizing the layout so that users could quickly find what they needed without feeling lost or bombarded. Balancing visuals, text, and navigation for both desktop and mobile views also required several iterations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a visually compelling and informative platform from scratch. The final result is clean, engaging, and easy to use. We also feel great about the message we’re spreading—raising awareness about a preventable condition in a meaningful way. The potential social impact is what we’re most excited about.
What we learned
We learned how crucial thoughtful design and structure are in educational platforms. We also gained deeper insight into public health communication—how to present sensitive medical topics in a way that encourages curiosity and compassion rather than fear or stigma. On the technical side, we sharpened our frontend development and user experience skills.
What's next for LiverStrong
Next, we plan to expand LiverStrong with interactive tools such as a liver health quiz, testimonials from survivors, and a directory of local support services. We also want to incorporate multilingual support and partner with health professionals to ensure medical accuracy. Ultimately, we envision LiverStrong becoming a trusted, go-to resource in liver health education worldwide.
