Inspiration

My grandfather had surgery for fatty liver disease. He told me it felt like an ambush. One day he was fine, the next a doctor was telling him his liver was failing and he needed an operation. He had no idea it had been building up for years. I have fatty liver too. When I found out, all I could think about was how scared he must have been, and how I don't want any other kid getting blindsided the way we did. This used to be an adult thing. Now it's showing up in children and teenagers more and more, and most of us have never even heard of it until something goes wrong. I built LiverLoop because nobody should find out about their liver at a young age or at a time when nothing can be done to fight against the disease.

What it does

LiverLoop is a calm place to keep track of everything around fatty liver. You log your numbers, weight, labs, whatever your doctor is watching, and it keeps them in one dashboard so you can actually see trends instead of trying to remember what last month's bloodwork said. There's an AI companion you can talk to about your habits. What you're eating, how you're sleeping, whether you're moving enough. It's not a doctor and it doesn't pretend to be one. It's more like a journal that talks back and helps you notice patterns. And before appointments, it puts together a simple summary you can bring your doctor, so you walk in prepared instead of trying to remember three months of your life in a ten-minute visit.

How we built it

I built the frontend with React and deployed on Vercel. Everything is stored in the browser's local storage, nothing goes to a server, because health data is personal and I didn't want anyone's private info floating around. The demo profile is completely fictional with synthetic data, and it's labeled everywhere so nobody mistakes it for a real patient.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part wasn't the code. It was figuring out what would actually help without overstepping. I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice. I had to be really careful that every part of the app makes that clear. I didn't want to build something that gives people false confidence about a serious condition. On the technical side, keeping everything local in the browser while still making the dashboard feel useful took real work. Integrating an AI Companion in the service was challenging as the AI was strictly for using the service not medical advice.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud the demo actually works and the fictional data is clearly labeled everywhere. I'm proud of the appointment prep feature, that's the thing my family would have actually used. And I'm proud I shipped something real in a day for a problem that's personal to me.

What we learned

I learned that the scariest part of fatty liver isn't the disease, it's not knowing. My grandfather's word was ambush. If this helps even one person see it coming instead of being blindsided, it was worth it. The recent data behind the scenes showed me how common it is getting and how fatal it can be for the world. Several people let the condition worsen by not understanding the

What's next for LiverLoop

I want to add real trend analysis, not just charts but actual here's-what's-changing insights. I want to make it work for kids and teenagers specifically, since that's who's getting diagnosed more now. And I want my family to actually use it and also people who are at an early stage and unknown of the severe consequences.
