Inspiration
I often want to stay informed but hate drowning in endless articles. One evening while cooking, I kept stopping just to check headlines. That moment sparked the idea: what if the news could simply talk to me in real time, like a brief from a friend?
What it does
LiveBrief AI is a real-time news aggregator that collects stories from multiple sources, uses AI to generate concise summaries, and delivers them through live voice broadcast. Users can listen while commuting, cooking, or working and still catch the essence of breaking news without reading long articles.
How we built it
The entire project was built with Kiro. The core pipeline is news fetching → AI summarization → text-to-speech → real-time streaming. Kiro helped me rapidly prototype the architecture, refine summarization prompts, and iterate on the voice delivery experience.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing speed and quality was the biggest challenge. Real-time feeds easily become noisy, and early summaries were either too shallow or too verbose. Making the voice stream feel smooth and natural—without awkward pauses or robotic delivery—also required many iterations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a complete end-to-end pipeline that turns scattered news into clean, spoken briefings. The system prioritizes important stories and delivers them in a continuous, listen-friendly stream rather than isolated announcements.
What we learned
We learned how sensitive the listening experience is to the quality of intermediate summaries, and how valuable rapid iteration with tools like Kiro can be when refining both the AI prompts and the overall user flow.
What's next for LiveBrief AI
Next we plan to add personalized topic preferences, multi-language support, and smarter interruption handling so the briefings feel even more natural and useful in daily life.
