Inspiration

Sometimes, online classes can get a bit boring and the way it works is that it always start with you opening up your browser and seeing a plain, boring, screen which would demotivate you to work. Therefore, we wanted to solve this problem.

What it does

Presents latest news, presents advice of the day, has a built-in to do app, a super nice UI, very unique layout, and much more.

How we built it

We've build a couple of React project which helped us to reuse some of those concepts in this app. Plus, we read a whole lot of documentations and "Stackoverflowed" the hell out of the problems. We were calm all the time and took some rest when needed without pressuring ourselves much which lead to successful completion of this project.

Challenges we ran into

Initially we used News API but we overlooked the documentation which stated that it's only free for development. We realized this issue when we couldn't see any news upon deploying. Thankfully, we managed to utilize another API (NY Times API) which does the same thing but it came at a cost that we had hard time extracting thumbnail for each news, thus we discarded thumbnails from each news (with the usage of previous API, we successfully derived thumbnails for each news).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Being able to sit for long hours and code.
  • Read a lot of documentations and learned how to navigate through problems and find solutions on our own.
  • Built something useful.
  • Strengthened ReactJS skills (now we understand React Hooks and props drilling better)

What we learned

How to get friendly with documentations
