Inspiration

I was inspired by a news telecast that showed how many people in the world were not aware of information related to Covid-19. This caused me to want to build a easily accessible app so everyone could stay alert about the latest information related to Covid-19.

What it does

The app shows the major statistics related to Covid-19 using the John Hopkins dataset and is updated live.

How I built it

I created a webapp on Gatsby Framework and used Map API to show the global map of markers related to coronavirus by country. Then I used React Native in order to provide an IOS and Android App for people to use (the IOS app has not been published in the App Store, however, you can access the Android APK, IOS native code, and the website).

Challenges I ran into

Challenges that I ran into were using Gatsby framework in app format, finding somewhere to host the website, passing John Hopkins data into containers, and using React Native, as this was my first time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Accomplishments that I'm proud of are creating an app that is easy to access by everyone, helping increase awareness of coronavirus, using React Native successfully, and being able to overcome all the challenges I faced on the way.

What I learned

I learned how to successfully use React Native, pass John Hopkins data into containers, how to use Gatsby in app format, and creating an app from a website.

What's next for Covid-19 Live Tracker

Next, I will try to improve the app by having more localized data, such as states, and adding more information, such as top 5 countries with coronavirus cases, some tips to reduce chances of gettting coronavirus, and others.
