Inspiration
The idea for Live-It came from a few real-life incidents. The first one was when I realized how many small moments I miss around my college campus and neighborhood. Big events are easy to find because they have posters and WhatsApp notifications, but spontaneous moments like friends playing football in the rain, people stargazing, someone playing music, or even people petting a friendly cat usually go unnoticed. I wanted a way for people to discover what's happening around them in real time.
Another incident was a fire that broke out in a nearby building. Of course, people called the fire department, ambulance, and police, but many people living just a few hundred meters away had no idea what was happening. Some of them could have helped or at least stayed away from danger if they had known. That made me think about adding an emergency feature that could instantly notify nearby users during situations like this.
These experiences inspired me to build Live-It - a live discovery platform where people can see what's happening around them or anywhere in the world.
What it does
Whether it's a small everyday moment, a concert, a football match, or simply watching a beautiful sunset, Live-It lets people share their experiences live with others.
Unlike traditional platforms, you don't need thousands of followers for people to find your stream. Anyone nearby, or even someone exploring another country on the map, can discover what you're sharing in real time. The goal is to make discovering authentic, live experiences simple and accessible for everyone.
How we built it
I already had a clear vision of how I wanted the app to feel. Since the app revolves around live data, I chose AWS DynamoDB as the database because it fits real-time applications really well.
For the frontend, I built everything using v0. Instead of asking it to generate the entire app in one prompt, I built it one screen at a time. I started with the home page, kept iterating, refined the layouts, and continuously improved every screen using reference images and detailed prompts.
The goal wasn't just to let AI design the app for me. I wanted every design decision to feel intentional, resulting in a modern product that feels polished instead of AI-generated.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was getting v0 to understand exactly what I had in mind. Sometimes I had to repeat the same idea multiple times, which used up a lot of credits.
I eventually ran out of credits, but thankfully v0 had a referral program. I shared my referral link with around 15 friends, and every signup gave me additional credits, which helped me finish building the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest achievement for me is building a production-ready MVP without any programming experience.
This isn't just a landing page or a clickable prototype. The app connects with a real database, AI features, and multiple APIs, and it's capable of supporting features like Stripe payments as well. It's something that could actually be published on the Play Store and App Store, all without writing a single line of code.
What we learned
This project completely changed the way I look at building software.
I realized that today, even a single person can build a production-ready product with the right AI tools.
While working with v0, I also learned how to use different models more efficiently. I used the Max model for generating larger features and complete screens, the Pro model for design iterations, and the Mini model for smaller changes like text, colors, and fonts to save credits.
Beyond AI, I also learned a lot about databases, backend architecture, APIs, and how different services connect together. It gave me the confidence to build even bigger ideas in the future.
What's next for Live-It
Whether I win this hackathon or not, I'm attached to this app and genuinely want to continue building it.
My next goal is to add more features, improve the experience, and publish it on both Android and iOS.
I already have a marketing plan as well. I want to start by targeting colleges. The idea is to collaborate with popular students and encourage them to stream campus activities exclusively on Live-It. As more students join to watch those streams, the community can grow organically. Once that works, I'll repeat the same approach across more colleges and continue expanding from there.
