Inspiration

We were inspired to make this tracker due to the sheer numbers of COVID-19 cases throughout the USA, and so we wanted to make a super simple and easy method to find basic data for states across the USA.

What it does

It opens a new window that has a dropdown menu of each state, selecting one will provide basic COVID-19 Statistics for the state.

How we built it

We built it in combination using eclipse as a main java compiler, and using repl.it to work with each other in collaboration.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges along the way but we were able to successfully overcome each one using each other, and the internet for help. We ran into to many compiling issues, but we were able to solve those through extensive debugging. We also came across the problem of how to easily retrieve and display data without using the default text box in our IDE's, where we solve it by creating a new window used specifically for the tracker. There are many other challenges we ran into but with our time and effort, we overcame each one.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Most of the work that we did was done on the fly. We weren't aware how to accomplish many of the tasks in the project, but again, thanks to the internet, we were able to quickly learn how to utilize many interfaces, and implement them into our project.

What we learned

We learnt multiple things, we learnt: How to retrieve data from a website How to use java and create and open a custom window How to use various data types to accomplish your goals Many other small but possibly important things in java that could be utilized in future projects.

What's next for Live COVID-19 Tracker for the USA

In its current state, our project is pretty basic and does just enough to accomplish our goal, and we're aware of that. It only provides basic data on Coronavirus for each state, and at that the UI isn't as good as it could be. In the future we can add much more data available for each state, as well as make a more modern, and expansive UI!
