Inspiration
We found that as we made more friends, keeping track of events became hard and texting friends to figure out plans for the weekend becomes tedious. With a little inspiration from friends, we decided to develop LitUp.
What it does
Too lazy to check all your event invites? Want to see what your friends are up to on the weekend? Get lit.
LitUp enables users to see which events their friends are going to, and how lit it's going to be. Using data from Facebook, LitUp can show you the best events in your area, even one's your friends are not going to as long as it's lit. LitUp aims to minimize planning time and maximize time to get lit.
How we built it
Building the framework of the website with Axure, we then developed the rest just through our host's native code editor using HTML, CSS, Jquery, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating both Facebook API and Google Maps API to create a visual representation of data created some tricky problems for us. It was challenging in both the front-end and back-end. Filtering out un-relevant events, monitoring time of event, as well as tracking friend activities created a large roadblock for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Going from 0 to 100 real quick, we both delved deep into learning things and trying things we were not used to. Using different APIs and integrating it into the website, we challenged a problem that we would normally not think of fixing.
What we learned
Planning and hard work is very important. That being said, sleeping is also very important. Enjoying the work you do and realizing what you're working towards is for your own benefit will make the entire experience that much more enjoyable.
What's next for LitUp
There's no other way but up. Lit up. Get lit, get it?
