Inspiration

With the alarming increase in wildfires, we decided to assemble technology to combat this issue and help the climate crisis. We wanted to make something that helped campers make safe choices when building their campfires

What it does

Through the use of an Arduino and soil moisture sensor, our hardware setup gives us a reading of the moisture within the soil. With this reading, we will be able to determine if a campfire can be safely started without causing a wildfire.

How we built it

We used Arduino and Velo by Wix to create this project.

Challenges we ran into

The most prominent challenge we ran into was getting the Arduino to function properly. None of us had any experience with programming Arduinos, but we decided that this we were going to teach ourselves for this project.

What we learned

We learned about how Arduino's worked, even if we weren't able to get exactly what wanted, it was still a learning experience.

What's next

In the future, we hope that technology like this could help the climate crisis. If we had more time and resources, we could connect the output from the Arduino into the website so that it could directly tell the user if they should or should not try to build a fire in their conditions.
