Inspiration
We are huge fans of pirates and survival resource games. We've been working on a similar pirate game idea internally for over a year, and this was a great oppurtunity to put it together.
What it does
Fun mobile game with a fair bit of polish, with lots of room to grow and improve. Compacted the game into an expedited version for this prototype so you can experience more of what we plan for the full game to have in the first 5-15 minutes.
How we built it
99% claude code pro, 1% chat gpt. We 100% used AI to create via prompt (including art and sounds). We only had to read through the code one time and send it the exact line with the error it couldn't find.
Challenges we ran into
Claude liked to make mistakes, or take several attempts to fix mistakes. Definitely could burn out easily if you didn't stop yourself from reviewing every update. Always good to step back after a long day, and come back fresh, even when creating via prompt.
Claude ocassionally would go down.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The game is a lot of fun, looks decent for a prototype, has the core loops we want, and even the sounds are a great starting point.
What we learned
Adding big core features should be done at the start. Asking for changes one at a time is usually best. Claude is surprisingly slow to generate a response compared to Chat-GPT and Grok.
What's next for Little Pirate, Big Dreams
- New title page with story based tutorial.
- Game saves.
- Better battle scenarios that open into an actual fight sequence with cannons.
- Better resource balancing, ie. more running out of materials, and more uses for gold.
- More player character uses, ie. walking around ship.
- More pirate theming, ie. pirate speak in dialogue, better art, and fonts.
- Quest log to track game progress.
