Inspiration
Our inspiration is based off of a period tracker app called Aavia. The sliding function is one we replicated through our website. We were also inspired by 3D environments and the peppers ghost creations to see something digital appear in a 3D environment.
What it does
Little Beacons is a website where you answer questions about your mood, and you are given a final mood that relates to your emotions. This little emoticon relating to the mood you have chosen will then appear reflected on the inside of our peppers ghost, In the future there will be multiple little emoticons in one little environment interacting with each other.
How we built it
We began prototyping with the idea of a gumball machine and then we began trying to find materials that could suit our project. We used the laser cutter to cut plywood in the shape of a box for the base of our peppers ghost. Simultaneously we were designing the UI and the UX for our website.
Challenges we ran into
There were a few issues with working with reactivity between two screens the coding pathwasy didn't reflect as well as we would hope. Fabrication could be sturdier. Working across three different computers and sharing assets, as well as finding free software.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seeing our image appear on the screen for the first time, figuring out the correct measurements for the 45 degree angle for the peppers ghost.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the way in which multi screen environments work and how to reflect something 2D into a 3D environment.
What's next for Little Beacons
Little beacons hopes to have a mobile app as well, and hopefully create a more unified and portable design so that it can be used in peoples homes.
