Inspiration

My (Sophia's) volunteer experience at an organization focused on eliminating illiteracy inspired the idea for this app.

What it does

LiteracyLearners is an app prototype that aims to help illiterate youth and adults learn to recognize words they come across in their daily lives.

How we built it

Tiffany built the website using Visual Studio Code and HTML, while Sophia built the app UI/UX prototype using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

We did this project less than 10 hours before the submission deadline, from ideation to finally submitting it on Devpost. We had an app idea, but no idea on how to actually code it. So we adapted and decided to code a website as our technical component. While we do not currently have the knowledge to build this app containing all its functions, we made a prototype in order to illustrate our idea. Another challenge was that our parents were asleep while we worked on this, so we didn't want to film the video and risk waking them up. So we adapted for that too.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud we finished this.

What we learned

I (Sophia) learned how to use Figma to create an app prototype in these past few hours. We both learned the importance of trial and error; so much so that our website was named trial and error and I nearly forgot to change the name. Finally, we also learned the importance of grinding. No pain no gain.

What's next for LiteracyLearners

We'll find out soon!
