Inspiration
I currently work at an elementary school as a Program Assistant for an afterschool program. The kids struggle academically and often complain about certain learning tools being boring. Since we're focused on literacy, I was inspired to create a tool that can probably make things more interesting for them.
What it does
It asks for your "username". Then, it allows you to select one of the four characters(currently only one character is able to be chosen), then it gives a quick cookie clicker experience as a little brain break, and lastly, it leads you to the ai assistant who is the character you have chosen. You are able to ask it any necessary questions. And as an extra, it plays chill lofi music while you work.
How we built it
I planned my ideas out on paper and my notepad. And honestly, I just went for it, googling things, youtube tuts(Bro Code), and I have never used pip so much before in my life! The tools I used: Google Ai- everytime i googled something and it taught me things Chatgpt - for teaching me as I went and cleaning up some of my code Krita - for the character art designs I made Python - Tkinter, pygame Wolfram Alpha - App Id openai - AI App Id Pixabay - for music
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time learning how to use tkinter and Wolfram. Wolfram was especially challenging and I honestly still don't know how to build with it. Of course, I ran into many errors along the way. And I stayed up all night finishing it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I was able to just build something. Abd I was able to build it in 2 days!
What we learned
I've learned that I need to build reasonable expectations for myself. And I have learned new ways to use python and other technologies to bring my ideas to life.
What's next for Literacy Study Buddy
I would love to expand on it and hopefully it could become part of the curriculum for many schools.
