LiteBoard

Inspiration

As students at UIC, we have all used the Blackboard software, and most of us have our own personal issues with it. Being a shared source of frustration, this was an easy choice when we saw the Fulcrum Make it Make Sense track. This inspired us to create LiteBoard, the light-weight, clean, and intuitive platform to propel student success.

What it does

LiteBoard gives students a quick and simple view of what matters most. The home page gives easy access to all the student's courses along with a list of upcoming due dates for the most urgent assignments at a glance. Check your grades and view your calendar to stay on top of your academics.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into at first was using github to manage our file sharing and code updates. This took a little bit of patience and teamwork to get things running smoothly. We also found ourselves with multiple team members working on the same component without knowledge of the other. This was eventually solved with increased communication amongst the team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our overall teamwork and collaboration. We all worked well together by being communicative and supporting each other when issues arose. Some of us had never met each other prior to SparkHacks, so having a welcoming and cohesive group is something to be proud of.

What we learned

This event showed just how important it is to be a good team player. Having a short deadline of only 24 hours to complete a project from start to finish creates many challenges. This cannot be accomplished by one member alone, it takes a team of people working together and communicating effectively to overcome these challenges. It is amazing what can be accomplished when people put their creativity and skills together for a shared goal.

What's next for LiteBoard

LiteBoard has much room for improvement. Additional features such as quality messaging boards could eliminate the need for other apps such as Piazza and consolidate everything into one place for convenience. Having the ability to scan physical papers as well as submit digital files could eliminate the need for Gradescope and allow for easy integration into the grades page.
