Inspiration

I learned about this hackathon from my boyfriend. He knows I've been looking for creative opportunities to strengthen my proficiency with AI tools and he recommended I participate as practice. I am an avid mood reader, meaning I read books based on my current mood or fixation (e.g., during the winter, I gravitate towards books that are more festive or moody v. in the autumn I tend to gravitate towards books that are more cozy and romantic). I also love to pair my reading sessions with the perfect playlists, filled with songs that fit the vibe of the book I'm reading. I figure I'd bridge the two and build an app that curates reading recommendations based on a vibe evoked from certain songs or musical artists!

What it does

You describe a vibe or scene that incorporates music in some way (e.g., hanging out with long time friends, wine drunk and listening to Taylor Swift) and the app generates ~5 literary fiction recommendations that capture the emotions, motifs, and themes of that vibe.

How we built it

Using AI Chat assistance to create the prompt and One Shot in Bolt.

Challenges we ran into

The two main challenges I encountered were: 1) Ensuring that the recommendations are related to the emotions, motifs, and themes invoked by the vibe being described, and not just selecting keywords to generate recommendations and 2) Ensuring that the recommendations were dynamic and non-repetitive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I did something new and totally out of my comfort zone! And I got to include my love for books, so that's a plus.

What we learned

Prompting is hard--it requires a ton of patience and the ability to hone in on what it is you want, how you want it, and be able to clearly communicate that.

What's next for Lit Vibes

I'll continue to tinker with it to refine the recommendations engine. I'm always on the hunt for new reads and would love to have a tool like this handy, especially during a reading slump.
