Inspiration

Liquidity started when my roommate went to BJ's and realized he didn't have enough money in his checking account to pay for the table.

The catch? He wasn't broke. He had plenty invested in stocks, but didn't know which shares to sell, how much he'd owe in capital gains taxes, or whether he should just use his credit card and figure out the exact payment method later.

The reality is, your net worth isn't the amount of expendable cash you have. Your money lives in different colors, and not all of those colors are green (spendable immediately).

That got me thinking: What if an AI agent could find the cheapest money you have to spend?

What It Does

Liquidity is an AI-powered financial operating system that figures out how and when to fund your expenses.

  • Autopilot: Forecasts bills, income, and cash flow, adapting when circumstances change.
  • Capital Studio: Compares cash, investment liquidation, borrowing, and hybrid funding strategies.
  • Portfolio Intelligence: Considers taxes, volatility, and user restrictions like "Never sell my NVIDIA."
  • Chrome Extension: Shows how an online purchase would affect your existing financial obligations before you buy.

How We Built It

We used Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Convex, with Claude for financial explanations, CREAO for agentic recovery, and Capital One Nessie for sandbox banking.

A deterministic financial engine handles forecasting, optimization, and constraints. AI interprets requests and explains decisions but cannot bypass financial safeguards.

Challenges

  • Modeling credit card payment timing instead of treating every purchase as an immediate cash withdrawal.
  • Comparing investments while accounting for taxes, volatility, and settlement delays.
  • Preventing AI agents from violating financial restrictions or executing unauthorized actions.
  • Building a cohesive financial platform within a hackathon.

Accomplishments

Building a reusable financial optimization engine that powers cash-flow forecasting, large-purchase planning, and interactive financial scenarios, not just another AI chatbot.

What We Learned

Having wealth doesn't necessarily mean having liquidity. We also learned that trustworthy financial agents need accurate calculations, transparent reasoning, and strict permissions.

What's Next

Real bank and brokerage integrations, smarter portfolio analysis, and a universal shopping extension.

Our goal: Make knowing which money to spend as easy as knowing how much money you have.
