Inspiration
Managing money should not require sharing bank data or using a complicated spreadsheet. I wanted to build a private, calm, and native iPhone experience for people who want to understand their spending while staying in control of their data.
That idea became Liqora: a personal money tracker designed around privacy, fast capture, and clarity.
What it does
Liqora helps users record income and expenses, organize their finances, and understand where their money goes.
Users can add transactions manually, by voice, or by text. Apple Shortcuts support screenshot-based capture and an Apple Pay Shortcut workflow. On supported devices, on-device AI helps turn input into a reviewable transaction draft.
Liqora also includes accounts, categories, subcategories, tags, recurring transactions, trends, insights, and CSV import and export. No bank connection is required.
How we built it
I built Liqora as a native iPhone app with Swift and SwiftUI.
SwiftData stores the app's financial data locally. iCloud Sync is optional and uses the user's personal iCloud account for supported data. Apple Foundation Models provide on-device AI assistance on supported devices, while App Intents and Apple Shortcuts make faster capture workflows possible.
RevenueCat powers Liqora Pro, including monthly and annual subscriptions as well as a lifetime purchase.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing speed, privacy, and trust. AI and automation can make expense tracking much faster, but users should always understand and control what is saved.
Another challenge was supporting different ways of capturing transactions while keeping the experience consistent: manual entry, voice, text, screenshots, and Shortcuts all need to lead to a clear and trustworthy result.
Local AI is also only available on supported devices, so Liqora must communicate this honestly and still provide a useful experience for everyone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of creating a complete, polished finance app that puts privacy first without making tracking feel like work.
Liqora combines a native iOS design, flexible transaction capture, local AI assistance, optional iCloud Sync, insights, and a real RevenueCat-powered monetization model in one product.
Most importantly, AI-assisted and automated captures remain reviewable drafts. Liqora helps users move faster without silently changing their financial data.
What we learned
Building Liqora taught me that convenience is only valuable when users remain in control.
For financial information especially, automation should assist people rather than make hidden decisions for them. The best experience is not simply the fastest one: it is fast, understandable, and trustworthy.
What's next for Liqora
Liqora has been submitted to the App Store. The next step is learning from early users, improving the capture experience, and refining the features that people use most.
I want Liqora to grow into the private finance tracker that people genuinely enjoy using every day.
